Increasing player numbers mean the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association are set to boost the amount of teams in the under 17 female competition.

McLeod said the association was set to back a female junior country week, with teams from the under 13 and 16 brackets.

The fourth-year chairman said female cricket was booming.

"The number of players is larger, the standard of play is getting better and that's because there's some brilliant coaching going on," McLeod said.

"The junior development program we've introduced has been beneficial as well."

McLeod said the introduction of country week for female cricketers was a shot in the arm for the sport.

He said the success of the Australian women's side was highlighting a pathway to the top.

"They're playing against girls of similar ability (at country week).

"To play rep cricket for any association is special. We'll have special tops made so they'll have something to commemorate it with."

The WDCA Girls Cricket launch will take place at Active Sportz on Sunday at 2pm.

It will include a session with Dandenong spinner Chelsea Monscript for players in the WDCA development squad.
