Schools across the district were filled with princesses and fairies, superheroes and football players.
There was even a wizard or two casting their spells.
Organised by the Children's Book Council of Australia, the annual event is designed to help children find the magic in books and to encourage a lifelong love of reading.

Warrnambool Primary School deputy principal Dean Clements said the day had been a huge success.
"The kids costumes were amazing and parents have been superb in supporting their children with the number of books read at home and the quality of the costumes they have made," he said.
"Reading is the most important skill for children's future success and it is best to start as early as possible.
"Anything to encourage students to read is beneficial for their education."
