The 35-year-old fired a five-under round of 67 to shoot up into the top 40 at the BMW Championship at Illinois' Medinah Country Club's third course.
The flawless round was the first time the Warrnambool export has achieved the feat since the Sony Open in Hawaii in January.
The former BMW championship winner, who scored three of his five birdies on the front nine, hit 16 of 18 greens in regulation during his third round to finish the day tied for 36th at six under.
American Justin Thomas leads heading into the final round at 21 under with countrymen Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay six shots behind in a tie for second.
Leishman, who shot an even par round to open the tournament before shooting one-under in the second, is the second best-placed Australian in the field behind Adam Scott.
Scott is tied for 18th at nine under the card after firing a three-under round.
Fellow Australian Jason Day is also tied for 36th at six under.
