Bookaar's Penny Smith claimed gold at the International Shooting Sport Federation world cup in Finland on Saturday.
Smith secured a quota for Australia at the event.
"It is such a relief to get the second women's trap quota for Australia," she said.
"I believed in myself and took a positive attitude into the final, and I am really proud of my performance here in Finland."
Smith told The Standard in July she was eager to wear the green and gold in Tokyo after missing out on Commonwealth Games selection in 2018.
"Last year was disappointing but it's in the past now," she said at the time.
"I am more determined as a shooter to succeed."
The Finland world cup featured competition among 473 athletes from 76 nations.
Two quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in each of the four individual events were on offer.
Shotgun national team coach Rich Sammon said Smith was an athlete with strong mental fortitude.
"Penny's placing today is well-deserved and a testament to the resilience and courage she has demonstrated in recent years," he said.
Smith's Australian teammate Laetisha Scanlan snared bronze in the same event.
"Another final and another medal for Laetisha to finish an incredible year," Sammon said.
"Her record of seven of a possible nine finals at this level is phenomenal."
Sammon was pleased with his team's overall performances.
"Australia came very close to having three athletes in the final," he said.
"Catherine Skinner showed her quality with a ninth-place finish even though it was her first world cup competition since early last year."
