The city's community radio station is taking over broadcasting stories from The Standard.
The 3WAY FM broadcast will replace the Vision Australia service which stopped transmission in May.
Station president John MacInnes said 3WAY FM volunteers would read The Standard live-to-air Monday to Friday at 12.30pm.
"The former Vision Australia readers discovered lunch time is the best for the broadcast," Mr MacInnes said.
"When we heard Vision was ceasing the service we thought 'there are a lot of people who are regular listeners who will miss out'.
"We thought 'we are a community station, this is a community service', so we are a natural fit to do this."
Mr MacInnes said a number of former Vision Australia volunteers had joined 3WAY FM to continue reading the news.
"At least two or three of our current presenters were readers with Vision Australia, so they will keep going," he said.
"Our existing members will help with operating the panel, making sure the mics are turned on or off and set the levels."
A specialised table has been acquired from Vision Australia to help equip a new studio constructed for the news broadcast. The table holds the newspaper at an angle to make it easier for the volunteers to read.
"The studio won't only be used for the news reading, we will be able to do all of our normal production in here," Mr MacInnes said.
Vision Australia ceased the newspaper broadcast service and shut down its Warrnambool operation and office in May after 16 years of service to the community.
The decision infuriated listeners, who said it was an integral service to keep up to date on news across the region. More than 40 volunteers were left devastated by the decision when they lost their positions.
Mr MacInnes said a welcome event was planned for the former Vision Australia volunteers.
"We are trying to make sure we are all in this together," he said.
The Regional Radio News service will be broadcast on 3WAY FM 103.7 from from September 2, and available on the station's live stream.
"We are also considering making the program available as a podcast," Mr MacInnes said.
