Following a bitterly cold weekend, numbers eased to 282 this week at Mortlake. The offering was mixed in a plainer quality yarding than the previous week, with more dairy cows offered than the previous week. Not all the processes were present or active due to the quality and there were low numbers in the trade section of the market. The market sold firm to last week, with some good C3 and C4 grown steers offered this week. The yarding consisted of 120 cows, 121 trade cattle, 40 bullocks and 1 bull. There were very few good yearling steers offered this week, which sold to 265c/kg. There was a better selection of yearling heifers and they sold to the trade from 265c to 295c/kg. Feeders were the most active, purchasing most of the better yearling cattle. C3 and C4 grown steers and bullocks made from 262c to 316c, with the heifer portion selling from 268c to 288c/kg a much better quality yarding this week. Feeders were active again here as well. Manufacturing bullocks sold from 222c to 247/kg. The cow sale was dominated by dairy cows, with some C3 and C4 beef cows also offered. Competition eased from last week's rates for the heavier cows, with the 3 and 4 score cows selling from 240c to 265c/kg. Light cows made from 110c to 181c/kg. The single bull offered this week made 280c/kg.
