The 11-year-old Koroit and District Primary student was part of the successful Victorian team which secured a gold medal at the national championships in the West Australian city of Mandurah.
Byrne and his Victorian teammates were undefeated through the whole tournament to claim overall victory against the host state.
The young Saint, who is a die-hard Geelong fan, said he enjoyed claiming the medal and he was eager to keep improving his footy.
After playing a majority of the games in defence and in the midfield, Byrne was switched forward in the final where he kicked two goals to help the side to victory.
Now Byrne will prepare to play for Koroit's under 12 side in the Hampden league junior grand final at Mortlake's DC Farran Oval in two weeks time.
