On Monday it was announced the sporting body had chipped in $200,000 for the $10 million revamp.

Cricket Victoria's western country manager Tony Caccaviello said the redeveloped grounds would inspire current and future cricketers.

"It is a fantastic result for local cricket and the greater Warrnambool community," he said.

Last year the long-awaited project was green-lit with a $7 million cash injection from the state government and the Warrnambool City Council has also successfully secured a $3 million loan.

Mayor Tony Herbert said the funding coup was "phenomenal".

"It's a fantastic investment from Cricket Victoria," he said. "This is the hub and the south-west's premier sporting centre."

He said a project manager and a project officer had been appointed and they were assessing tenders for the works.

Council's acting recreation and culture manager John Finnerty said the tenders were for quantity surveyor services and design services for the playing surface and pavilion.

He said the project officer would lead discussions with the oval's clubs about where they would operate from while the redevelopment was underway.

Construction is expected to start in September 2020 and be completed by May 2022.

Cr Sue Cassidy, who is the chair of the Reid Oval project control group, said the cash was warmly welcomed.

"Anything to help the project come along is fantastic news for us," she said.

The council also has an application in to the AFL for further funding for the project.

Warrnambool and District Cricket Association chairman Gordon McLeod said the cash boost was a great result.

"We are the biggest association in the south-west," he said.

"We have three divisions of cricket and large junior numbers. We also have a very successful girls competition which started two years ago.

"It's growing each year and there was 14 teams last season. The upgrades will make this facility first class and we will hold all our finals matches here."
