Half a million people descended upon Max Yasgur's 243 hectare dairy farm in Bethel, New York on August 15-18, 1969 and heard the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, Santana and many more take to the rickety wooden stage.
This Friday night, Terang's Commercial Hotel is bringing the music, atmosphere and love of Woodstock to their stage for people to reflect on the pivotal event Woodstock was as part of their Terang Live running event.
Owner Les Cameron was prompted by others to commemorate the event and was more than happy to do so.
"I was 20 at the time of Woodstock and I have strong memories of the event," he said.
"After a few people discussed the idea, local artists came on board to make the event happen.
"To me, Woodstock happened during a historic period where JFK and Martin Luther King were assassinated. We were in the middle of the anti-war efforts and the rise of feminism was happening. All these topics were drawn together and the festival had this energy about it; it was the physical symbol of making love not war.
"Even here in Australia, people advocating for these changes were given a boost by Woodstock."
The Commercial Hotel's 'Remembering the Power of Woodstock' will host an array of local talent singing the classic numbers of Woodstock.
Peter Daffy, Jim Williams, Katie Gane, Fiona Pugh, Suzette Herft, Glynn Coulson, Grace Moloney, Jacob West & Britt and Heather Anderson will take to the stage this Friday night celebrating their idols who redefined the music industry.
"Everybody will be doing a song played at Woodstock," Mr Cameron said.
"The artists will introduce their songs and pay tribute to these artists who influenced them.
"There will be a few special moments including 'The Star Spangled Banner' and 'With a Little Help from my Friends'. After the event and on Saturday afternoon we will play the 1970 documentary 'Woodstock'."
Tickets are $20 and can be purchase at the Terang Hotel or via calling Erin on 0407 260 280 or Des on 0407 956 639. Tickets will be available on the door but it's recommended to pre-purchase yours to guarantee you won't miss out.
