Hamilton's Lily Eggar has proved she has a natural flair for fashion.
The 15-year-old took on some of the state's most promising fashion students in the Australasian Young Designer Wool Awards at Sheepvention on Sunday.
Her black strapless evening gown impressed the crowd and took out the prize for best evening wear.
Lily, who attends The Hamilton and Alexandria College, could hardly contain her excitement when she was announced as the winner.
"I'm really surprised," she said.
"I've always loved fashion and I've been sewing for the past nine or 10 years."
Lily credited her sewing teacher Margie Dore with helping her perfect her art.
She said the dress took her about a week to make. "I was a bit short on time because we're moving house," she said.
Melbourne's Fung Fung Wang won the overall prize.
Sheepvention was a hive of activity on the first day, with popular events including the farm dog championship, the fashion parade and the inventions competition.
The event continues on Monday and Tuesday, with the heritage breeds feature show on Monday and the ram sale on Tuesday.
