Roos coach Matt Dunn praised the run and carry of Rory Gill and Tyrone Ross for edging the match in their favour on Saturday.
The 14.9 (93) to 11.5 (71) victory over the bottom-placed Bombers put the Kangaroos one game outside the top five with five rounds to play.
"We kicked the first four goals in the first 15 minutes and got off to a good start," Dunn said.
"But then we had turnovers in our back line and they got back in it. Their pressure and attack on the footy was good.
"It wasn't until the last five minutes we could rest easy."
Kangaroos ruckman Levi Dare kicked four goals in his return from a knee injury and reliable defender Jandre Slabbert also impressed Dunn.
