The city will be the first in Victoria and only the second in regional Australia to hold an event, which is billed as "a leading platform for the propagation of ideas, creativity and innovation".
The TEDx conference will see five speakers share their ideas for up to 15 minutes.
TEDxWarrnambool organiser Helen Sheedy said speakers would have the opportunity to reach a massive audience.
"This is an amazing opportunity to tell the stories of our region to potentially millions of people around the globe," she said. "TEDxWarrnambool will be a place in our community that inspires people to change their lives, futures and, ultimately, the world."
She said she would love to see the city's cultural diversity embraced.
"Rather than beginning with an overarching theme for the talks, we decided to keep the parameters wide to encourage broad inclusion and to showcase the diversity and history that our region provides," she said.
"If you have an idea that is worth sharing, you are passionate about and you want to make a local and global impact, we want to hear from you."
The event will be held on April 3, 2020 at The Stage at Emmanuel College. It will also be live-streamed.
Emmanuel principal Peter Morgan said it was a coup for the city.
"We are really excited for Emmanuel College to be able to offer the theatre space," he said.
"We are opening it up to the community which is quite exciting."
TED is a non-profit global organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
TEDx talks are among the most popular videos on social media, with the TEDx Talks' YouTube channel having more than 19 million subscribers. Applications to speak at the event can be sent to helen@tedxwarrnambool.com.
