WVLX Mortlake's July store sale was met with high demand from processors, feed lotters, re-stockers and locals who pushed prices to a new record.

There was great support from local and wider Victorian agencies; all indicating that the overall yarding was exceptional in terms of quality and breed. The market had a notable market rise for grown steers (355c/kg) by 40c/kg compared to the June store sale.

There was a rise of 40c/kg for weighed weaner steers compared to last month, which fetched an impressive 352c/kg.

Grass heifers increased by 20c/kg, selling at 320c/kg and weighed weaner heifers sold at 318c/kg, also a rise of 20c/kg.

The open auction steers topped at $920 each - up by $100 on June's store sale.

Open auction heifers made $600-700; a rise of $80-100. There was plenty of competition for cows and calves, topping at $1780; a significant increase of $300.

There was a reduced yarding of cattle presented at Hamilton on Friday.

A smaller yarding of bulls were penned, reaching a top of $2.80c/kg or $2983phd and averaging $2.70c/kg, to be 20c dearer.

The overall yarding mainly comprised of a run of cows with prices increasing on last week. Better beef bred cows topped at $2.90c/kg or $2144/hd, being 15 cents dearer.

There was a similar yarding of sheep and lambs, totalling 5413 at Hamilton today. Quality was not as mixed as last sale, with some very well finished trade lambs on offer.

Not all the regular buyers attended or operated fully on a very firm to slightly dearer market overall, with more trade lambs making in the 1,000c/kg cwt area for the better finished lambs. Light weight 12-18kg lambs 1 and 2 score sold from $140 to $176/head.

The medium 18-22kg 3 and 4 scores made from $150 to $204/head and averaged 1,000c/kg cwt. The heavy weight 22-26kg lambs made from $240 and $270/head to average 1,000c/kg cwt. Extra heavy 4 score lambs topped at $282/head. Sheep numbers were back by 500 head to 1,240, with a good selection of heavy crossbred ewe and merino mutton that sold firm on last week. Light 1 and 2 scores sold from $76 to $140 and the medium weight 2 and 3 scores received from $120 to $158/head.

Supply more than doubled last week's low yarding with 329 cattle penned by Colac agents. Quality overall was mainly plain for the usual following of buyers. Increased numbers of cows and young cattle made up the larger yarding and prices were mostly 10c to 20c/kg higher with plain quality most affected. This week's offering comprised of 10 grown steers, 55 grown heifers, 138 young cattle, 115 cows and 11 bulls. The lean conditioned C muscled vealers and yearlings mainly sold to restockers and they paid from 210c to 260c with the trade going to 280c/kg for vealers. The D muscled 1 and 2 score yearlings sold between 150c and 220c with poor conditioned E1's from 110c to 155c/kg. Just the two proper C3 and C4 grown steers were penned and they made 285c and 300c/kg respectively. Four C2 steers sold at 275c and an over fat extra heavy weight steer made 270c/kg. A single C3 grown heifer sold for 260c and the five C2's were at 265c/kg. A single C4 cow topped the sale at 288c while the D2 cows sold between 225c and 259c/kg. The D1 grade made 200c to 225c and the E1 cows were from 160c to 210c/kg. Beef bred bulls made 224c to 260c/kg
