Luke Ryan, 30, of Dry-Lakes Road, was arrested on April 15 after a search of his Holden Commodore sedan revealed 15 grams of ice, plastic deal bags, a double-edged knife, knuckle dusters, a blade throwing star, tomahawk, large meat cleaver, a loaded sawn-off shotgun, ammunition and $300 cash. Mr Ryan is a prohibited person under the Firearms Act 1996.

Warrnambool police Senior Constable Joe Fischer said police intelligence reports revealed Mr Ryan had driven to Melbourne to collect drugs 12 times in four weeks.

He said the accused also admitted to driving to Geelong three times per week to purchase between 15 and 30 grams of ice.

He said Mr Ryan had a one-gram-per-day ice habit and was also facing charges of drug driving, drink driving and handling stolen goods.

Lawyer Ian Pugh said his client had not offended since 2007, was prepared to engage in support services and had strong family support.

But magistrate Mark Stratmann said the offending was so serious that Mr Ryan could be incarcerated.

He said the accused was found with five times the traffickable quantity of drugs and was a prohibited person with a loaded shotgun.

"That is of grave concern," he said.

Mr Ryan was refused bail and demanded in custody until August.
