Helen Stevens is a registered nurse, midwife and maternal and child health nurse that specialises in infant mental health sciences.
Originally from Hawkesdale, she studied nursing in Warrnambool and went on to become an author and researcher who provides education for families and professionals worldwide.
On Saturday Ms Stevens will explore how sleep and brain development is linked during a two-hour forum at Warrnambool's Whalers Hotel.
The event is organised by the Warrnambool Breastfeeding Centre and is $30 per person or $50 per couple.
Ms Stevens said the causes of baby sleep disturbances were varied and the solutions offered were endless and not always helpful.
"A lot of online opinion and advice is not always founded on solid information and research," she said.
"People always ask me 'when will my baby sleep through the night?' but everybody sleeps differently and you can't say one thing works for every child because they are completely unique.
"If we provide the right environment we can give the baby the very best opportunity to sleep as much as they possibly can."
Warrnambool Breastfeeding Centre committee member Julia Thompson said the special guest was a real coup for Warrnambool.
"It's not often we get experts of this nature and people actually pay hundreds of dollars to have personal consultants with people with this sort of knowledge," she said.
"This event is a really wonderful, affordable and enriching opportunity for parents. It is also a really great networking opportunity to meet other mothers, fathers and families in the same position.
"Baby sleep is a really hot topic in parenting circles and it can be really quite challenging for some parents. There is a lot of information floating around that can prove to be quite a midfield for parents. Helen provides evidence-based real information that can really nurture and assist families."
The event starts at 10.30am. You can purchase tickets here.
