There was an increase in the number of lambs yarded at Hamilton this week. Quality was very good for the trade weight lambs with not as many heavy weights yarded this week.
The sale was attended by the normal regular buyers however not all operated fully in a firm market for both sheep and lambs.
The 18kg to 24kg lambs were keenly sought after and this category was dearer for the 3 and 4 score well finished lambs. Restocker competition was very limited.
Light weight 12kg to 18kg 1 and 2 score lambs sold from $121 to $163/head. Medium weight, 18kg to 22kg, lambs sold from $132 to $219/head and averaged 890c/kg cwt.
Heavy weight, 22kg to 26kg, 3 and 4 score lambs made between $190 and $248/head and averaged 890c and touched $1000c/kg cwt in some offerings.
Extra heavy 4 score lambs topped at $269/head and averaged close to $900c/kg cwt. Light 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $87 to $115 and medium weight 2 and 3 scores sold from $125 to $170/head.
Extra heavy weight 2 and 4 score sheep made from $155 to a top of $250/head. Heavy crossbred ewe mutton averaged 635c and Merino mutton 580c/kg cwt. Heavy hogetts made to $168/head. Rams of all weights sold from $50 to $204/head.

A total of four bulls were yarded, with the best bulls selling at $2.40 per kg showing good signs from last week's market and averaging $2.24 per kg. The smaller offering of trade cattle showed firm trends on the good quality cattle yarded, with trade heifers and bullocks selling for the market top of $2.76 per kg, an increase of 20 cents per kg on last week.
Once again, the high percentage of the overall yarding was a run of cows. COLAC CATTLE
June 27. Yarding: 198. Change: down 82.
Agents penned close to 100 less cattle again from last week's sale. Quality was mainly plain, with very few good trade cattle offered. The bulk of the yarding was made up of export types with processors stepping into the cow run, lifting prices up 18c/kg in places. Not all the regular processors were present and operated in a fluctuating market.
Quality improved on last week's offering of trade cattle, with the steers making from 250c to 280c and the heifer portion reaching 286c/kg. There were a few yearlings suiting the feeder buyers and restockers, with yearlings returning to feed making from 224c to 240c/kg. Finish in the grown steer and bullock run eased, with the C3 types making from 258c to 262c, easing 7c/kg. The quality of grown heifers was plainer this week, with prices decreasing 25c, receiving from 252c to 255c/kg.
Heavy manufacturing types were available to processors, making from 208c to 258c/kg. There was a mixture of cows offered selling in stronger market, with 4 score beef cows lifting 11c, receiving from 220c to 235c/kg.
The dairy cows with cover increased 12c, making up to 205c and the light D1 cows lifted up to 18c, receiving from 160c to 190c/kg. Only four bulls were offered today, with the only beef bull making 224c and the dairy portion receiving from 160c to 180c/kg.
