President Judy Rauert said she was thrilled the exhibition of almost 100 pieces was open.
"The exhibiting artworks have not been shown in Warrnambool before," she said.
"The pieces are of a very high calibre with a diverse range of subject styles and mediums."
This year a variety of awards across a multitude of medias were handed out by judge Jenny Altmann.
The Best Exhibit in Show award, the Judith Watson trophy, was won by Wilma Williams with her large acrylic painting of winter waves.
Jenny Arms won the 'other' category with her ink and wash artwork of the Port Fairy lighthouse.
Vice-president Tim Walker hopes members of the public will come to the Merri View Gallery to view the exhibition.
"This year we have more work than ever," he said.
"There's a thrill of colour as you walk in the doors.
"It would have been a lot of work to fit it all in."
The exhibition opening was catered for by the Water for East Timor group which helps provide water to a school in East Timor so students can attend.
The society is the oldest art group in the area and has various local well-known and beginner artists and art enthusiasts.
The Merri View Gallery is located in Coramba Court and is open 12pm-4pm everyday.
All visitors are welcome to the gallery and raffle tickets are on sale to go into the draw to win an artwork by Shirley Lindsay.
The exhibition will close on July 14.
