The 18-year-old's 28 disposal and one goal earned him best on ground honours for the Rebels in Saturday's 9.4 (58) to 7.9 (51) defeat to the Jets at Mars Stadium.
Herbert, who is in Vic Country's under 18 championship squad, was joined by his younger brother Marcus (12 disposals) and Warrnambool's Mitch Burgess (15 disposals) in the Rebels' best players.
Debutants Clem Nagorcka (Koroit) and Toby Jennings (Portland) made the most of their opportunity as bottom-age players on the NAB League stage during the first week of the Future Rounds.
Nagorcka, 16, kicked a goal and collected 11 touches while Jennings, 15, adjusted to the pace well finishing with four disposals.
Connor Giddings (one goal, five disposals), Flynn Atchison (10 possessions), James Cleaver (17 touches), Toby Mahony (11 possessions), Fraser Marris (one goal, 12 disposals) and Isaac Wareham (11 touches) also played well in the loss.
Elsewhere, Terang Mortlake's Scott Carlin made his Werribee VFL debut against Williamstown on Sunday.
The Tigers were eventually defeated by the Seagulls in an entertaining 16.7 (103) to 14.11 (95) result at Avalon Airport Oval.
