Colac police Acting Sergeant Josh Gooman said the small LP gas leak occurred at the Bromfield Street petrol station about 6.15pm.
"Police and CFA attended the service station following the small leak and the car park was blocked off for about an hour," he said.
"Three staff members and the occupants of one vehicle were evacuated.
"CFA got it under control pretty quickly and have now made the cornered-off section slightly smaller, with the entry and exit point to the business still blocked off."
Acting Sergeant Gooman said CFA were still at the scene waiting for a technician.
The petrol station will remain closed pending a safety inspection.
