Eighteen-year-old Laini Johnson and Hannah Meates, 29, will co-captain the Roosters' first senior women's football side, which will make its debut against Portland in this weekend's Deakin University Female Football League opening round.

Joining the pair in the leadership group is vice-captain Jasmine Bowater, 27.

"Myself and Jordan Kavanagh are both vocal at training and we wanted to find leaders that complement that on the field and who lead by example," O'Rourke said of the decision.

"Laini showed that in everything she did and she gives 100 per cent and has the willingness to lead."

"With her being 18 we thought Hannah, who is a little bit older but pretty similar to her with similar strengths, would give the girls something to aspire to and also to help support Laini."

The trio were shocked when O'Rourke announced their names at Wednesday's final training session ahead of Sunday's game.

"I was shocked because I'm not really that loud," Johnson said.

"I'm probably one of the quietest players we have but it is such a privilege."

Meates and Bowater said they were "stoked" to try something they had never done before and were excited for the challenge that awaits them.

Outside of football Johnson is currently completing year 12 at Warrnambool College, while Meates works as a sales representative at The Standard and Bowater spends most of her time looking after her four-year-old son Bohdi.

The trio shared similar goals for their first season playing.

"Kicking a goal," Bowater said. Meates added, "kicking a few goals and to improve". For Johnson, her main goal was just to have a good time.

The Roosters' first game of the DUFFL's senior competition is at the club's home at Friendly Societies' Park.
