A serious injury sustained playing netball for Hampden league club Koroit has forced the first-year midwife to take leave from her new job at Warrnambool Base Hospital.

Coincidentally, the Saints goal attack was booked in for surgery to repair her snapped achilles at her workplace on Tuesday.

Dobson, 23, started at the hospital in February after completing a four-year nursing and midwifery degree at Deakin University.

"It is devastating (to be ruled out for the season) but I am more annoyed about missing work," she said.

"I have really been enjoying it and getting into the swing of things with shift work and now it's a bit of a setback which is a bit frustrating.

"But hopefully I can get on the mend and have a bit of a plan in action and know when I will be returning to work, that is the main priority."

Dobson had a delayed start to the season due to an ankle concern. Her achilles went on her opposite leg.

"It thought it would even things up," she said.

Dobson was hurt during the Saints' win over Terang Mortlake at Victoria Park.

The premiership-winning Saint and her teammates knew straight away it was a serious injury.

"I think I was doing a run to the top of the ring and it just went," she said.

"I just turned my head because I thought someone had kicked me and I heard a loud gun noise and I kind of dropped to the ground and realised something wasn't right."

Dobson will remain involved with Koroit as it strives to make it three flags in a row. "I love the girls out there and we have a lot of fun out there," she said.

"We've got a few new players and it's gelling quite nicely.

"I started off the season watching them and I was watching it and was like 'it looks so good'.

"They can definitely hold their own with the other teams, so it's just about doing it on the day."

Koroit sits third on the ladder at the halfway point of the season with a 7-2 win-loss record.
