The Blues have not conceded over 80 points this season with O'Brien contributing it to how close they are.
"Our back line was tight (against Portland). It's not an individual thing, they all team well together, covering each other well and then use the ball well coming out," the second-year mentor said.
"We have had a stable back six with Bradley Bull, Will Jacobs, Matt Colbert, Alex Shipard, Jordan Foott, Samuel Wilson, Wil Fleming and Marty van Rooy all playing down there."
MORE FOOTBALL:
Warrnambool held Portland to just 63 points on Saturday as Darren Ewing, who was named best on ground, kicked 11 goals in its 22.13 (145) scoreline as the side cruised to its eighth win of the year.
O'Brien also praised the work of midfielders Jye Turland, Mitch Bidmade and Jackson Bell, as they were all named in the best.
"They are three really consistent midfielders," he said.
