The 37-year-old was found guilty of intentionally striking another person and handed a set penalty for an incident involving Koroit counterpart Jeremy Hausler in the second quarter of the Seagulls' 37-point defeat on Saturday.

McCosh, who has stepped up when fellow big man Sandy Robinson was injured and helped ease the Seagulls number one ruckman's load since his return, will miss matches against Hamilton Kangaroos and South Warrnambool.

Assistant coach Winis Imbi said McCosh, the coaching panel and the group were disappointed about losing a player but the squad would move on.

Imbi said the McCosh had made a big impact this season and that his suspension provided a chance for the Seagulls' coaching panel to shift the magnets.

"He has a had a real positive impact on the entire playing group. He took fitness sessions during preseason and taken a development role with our emerging talls," he said.

"His work on the field is only part of what he's brought this year. The time off will help him freshen up, invest in his craft and watch opposition ruckmen compete.

"However, his suspension gives us the opportunity to play with other ruck combinations, and we'll start to do this with Dougall Hamilton's inclusion this week.

"This in turn, can deepen our playing list and give us greater flexibility come the back end of the season where players are competing for positions."
