Warrnambool Special Developmental School Hands on Learning pupils dropped off two refurbished picnic seats, painted in the colours of 2018 winners Gold Medals and 2019 winner Zed Em.
Gold Medals, known around the stable as Elvis, popped into the racecourse for a visit with strapper Nick Gottlewski. The students are renovating 10 chairs all up, and SDS staff member Alex Strauch said the program was for students who may become disengaged in the classroom.
"We teach them a trade and endeavour to make them employable," he said. "We do things such as carpentry and painting. This is the second year of the Hands on Learning program at the SDS."
He said 16 students from grade four to year 10 took part in the program.
Warrnambool Racing Club chief executive officer Peter Downs said the students had done a fantastic job.
"It's great to be able to team up with the SDS and we hope we can do a lot more engagement with them and other community groups," he said.
