Crown prosecutor Daryl Brown said the nine-year-old victim was allegedly abused in December 2017.
It is alleged Mr Parsons sexually assaulted the victim before making him watch pornographic material and other sexual activity involving Mr Parsons.
A search warrant was conducted at the man's home on July 10, 2018. Police seized a mobile phone, two hard drives, a desktop computer, a tablet and an Australian passport and Working with Children Check belonging to the accused.
Victoria Police e-crime unit investigators located more than 200 images and videos of varying degrees of child abuse. The material was downloaded online and not recorded by Mr Parsons.
Mr Brown said majority of the material was cartoon drawings.
He said also saved on the hard drive was documents containing stories about an incest father and his young child, and a toddler being raped by an adult. The author of those stories is not known.
Mr Brown said investigators found 27 images on Mr Parsons phone, which included three photographs of the victim in his underwear.
He said the phone also revealed stories written by Mr Parsons about child abuse.
Barrister Tania Bolton said Mr Parsons conceded he suffered social awkwardness and used sexual activity to connect with people.
She said he was diagnosed with depressed mood disorder and pedophilic disorder.
She said Mr Parsons accepted he would be incarcerated but urged judge Paul Higham to consider a lengthy parole period.
Mr Higham requested a Forensicare report be prepared and adjourned sentencing until August 13.
Mr Parsons, who was previously on bail with a $10,000 surety, was remanded in custody.
