The 2020 and 2021 Victorian Junior State Championships, over the March Labour Day long weekend (7-9 March 2020 and 6-8 March 2021), will be the first time the annual event will be trialled over a three-day format.

Almost 1,500 junior lifesavers will travel to the south-west to compete, giving Warrnambool a boost in visitor numbers from athletes, as well as their support crews, coaches and team managers.

"We're thrilled to be able to announce two years of Junior State Championship events at Warrnambool and thank the Warrnambool City Council for its continued support," Life Saving Victoria Aquatic Sport Manager Kirsty Clark said.

"Rain, hail or shine, Warrnambool is always a great place for our junior athletes to compete."

The south-west club has hosted the junior state carnival from 2014-18 before Lorne hosted it in this year.

Earlier this year the club hosted the Victorian Youth and Senior State Championships. Lorne was confirmed as the host of the senior event for 2020 and 2021,

The WSLSC also secured the rights to host the Victorian Inflatable Rescue Boat Titles for the first time over the Queen's Birthday long weekend on June 8 and 9.

Warrnambool City Council visitor economy manager David McMahon Manager was proud to see the south-west-based club land the annual championships once again.

"Council acknowledged the hard work and thousands of hours that go into preparing for and hosting these championships and we will again support LSV and the Club to ensure they continue to grow," he said.

"Hosting such prestigious events with such significant numbers continues to build Warrnambool's reputation as an event city.

"More than this, these events help grow the profile and participation in the incredible sport and community service that is lifesaving."

WSLSC president Justin Houlihan said the club was eager to see the lifesaving world descend once again onto the sand of Lady Bay.

"Warrnambool SLSC is a big part of the community, and we're proud to be able to showcase both the club and our city to our lifesaving friends from around the state for the next two years," he said.
