COLAC CATTLE
May 23. Yarding: 267. Change: down 142.
Cattle supply came back to 267 head, 142 less, and there were fewer buyers present for the plain to average quality penning.
Despite the reduced competition, prices were mainly unchanged for young cattle, grown steers and cows, with just grown heifers on a cheaper trend. The yarding comprised of 34 grown steers, 24 grown heifers, 96 young cattle, 107 cows and 6 bulls. The odd few C muscled vealers sold at 200c, 220c, 260c and 300c, while C muscled yearlings were mainly heifers that made from 240c to 295c/kg.
The D1 and D2 yearlings received from 130c to 225c/kg. The plain to average quality C3 grown steers were from 256c to 270c, with the odd C4s reaching 280c/kg. The C3 and C4 grown heifers made from 230c to 270c/kg.
There were some quite good beef cows, however they sold a little easier from 200c to 235c/kg, but all other cows made similar money to last week's dearer prices. The D2 cows were from 189c to 210c, while D1s sold from 155c to 185c, with an isolated sale at 208c/kg. Most E1 cows made from 130c to 170c/kg.
