Cattle numbers remained steady this week, however the quality continues to ease as the weather becomes cooler across the supply area. Almost 70 per cent of the yarding was made up of cows, with numbers of cattle suiting the trade very limited. There were however, a small number of quality grown steers and bullocks offered, which created some competition between processors. An extra processor joined the regular buyers, along with feedlots and restockers. The market fluctuated across all categories due to the varying quality in categories.

There were very slim pickings across the trade cattle suiting the domestic processors, with the best of the trade steers making 280c, easing 5c, while the heifers also decreased up to 12c, receiving from 230c to 270c/kg. Feedlot and restockers were both active in the market again, with most yearling types unfinished and suiting this market. Better feeder steers and heifers sold in a firm market from 230c to 260c and restockers paid up to 279c/kg for yearlings returning to the paddock. Good quality grown steers and bullocks have become very scarce with very few well finished quality cattle suiting the export processors offered, however strong competition saw some good results for producers, with price lifts from 12c to 13c/kg. The grown steer portion made from 280c to 305c and bullocks received from 270c to 290c/kg. The best of the manufacturing types sold to a dearer price trend, lifting 6c to 11c/kg.
