An investigation into an alleged incident that left a Hampden league player with stitches above his eye has been launched, the AFL Western District confirmed on Thursday.

The incident, which allegedly occurred in the second quarter of South Warrnambool's match against Cobden at Friendly Societies' Park on Saturday, left Roosters' co-captain Liam Youl in need of treatment.
AFL Western District operations coordinator Mat Milne said the governing body had appointed an AFL Victoria Country investigator who would look at the evidence provided.
Milne said the investigator would determine whether the incident should be brought before a tribunal within 10 working days, unless an extension was required.
The tribunal would be responsible for determining any penalties.
The AFL Western District declined to comment further.
South Warrnambool, currently fifth on the HFNL ladder, defeated 10th-placed Cobden by 50 points.
