There was a total of 186 cattle yarded at the Hamilton fat cattle market, with a slight increase in numbers on last week. In general the market was well supported on heavier yarded cattle with prices being fully firm on lighter cattle. With 15 bulls yarded there was dearer competition on heavier bulls, with prices increasing by 10c on last week's market to average $2.26 per kg and a market high of $2.45 per kg. This shows a continuing trend for prices on bulls from the most recent markets. The yarding of trade cattle showed dearer trends on the good trade cattle yarded. Heavier trade heifers sold at an average of $2.30 per kg with a top price of $2.43 per kg. Heavier steers yarded showed a similar trend to the heifers selling at an average of $2.32 per kg on reaching a top of $2.70 per kg. Overall, plainer heifers and steers eased in the market to sell for 10 cents cheaper on past markets. A good run of 114 cows were offered with heavy beef cows selling with stronger demand on last week's sale with cows being 10c dearer overall selling at an average of $2.03 per kg with a market high of $2.38 and the best net per head value of $1531.20.
