Wannon MP Dan Tehan announced the cash last week, which is for duplication and overtaking lanes between Warrnambool and Port Fairy.

Mrs Britnell was unable to attend Thursday's announcement.

"I can confirm I was invited to attend the fantastic announcement the Federal Liberal Government would provide $60 million to upgrade the Princes Highway between Warrnambool and Port Fairy," she said.

"Unfortunately, the rapid nature of election announcements means diaries of busy state and federal members often don't align. I was unfortunately in Melbourne last Thursday to attend a long standing briefing with key stakeholders in my role as Shadow Minster for Ports and Freight.

"I was disappointed I could not attend the announcement, because the Princes Highway is such a key issue for our region. Dan and I speak regularly about this and other issues and I'm pleased he has listened and acted in a space the Andrews Labor Government has been absent."

She urged the state government to match the funding in the budget, which will be handed down on Monday, May 27.
