It was an equal priced sale this week, in a yarding that was comprised of mainly average to good quality cattle. The reduced sized yarding attracted a mainly usual following of processor buyers, of that, not all operated fully. However, restocker competition was keener on young and grown cattle. The few vealers were mainly lean in condition, making from 250c to 300c, with restockers going to 277c/kg. The yearlings made from 243c to 285c, with restockers topping at 298c/kg. The D1 and D2 yearlings received from 150c to 210c/kg to processors and restockers. The good quality selection of C3 and C4 grown steers sold from 270c to 308c, while the grown heifer portion made from 248c to 276c, with a restocker paying to 280c/kg. The manufacturing D1 steers sold from 180c to 195c/kg. Heavy weight C3 and C4 beef cows made from 208c to 233c, with a sale at 245c/kg. The D2 cows sold from 185c to 196c, with the D1 group making from 160c to 182c/kg. Light conditioned E1 cows received from 150c to 163c, with very poor quality receiving from 100c/kg. There were no heavy weight bulls offered this week.

Numbers eased a little to 295 head, following good rains last week. Quality varied from average to good, with all weights and grades on offer. The usual buying group, plus some extra export competition, competed in a firm to dearer market. Young cattle sold to the trade from 200c to 254c to be 10c/kg dearer in places. Grown steers made to 270c, as medium & heavy grown heifers sold 10c to 15c stronger, making to 264c/kg. Cows sold to stronger competition to be primarily 10c to 20c dearer and more in places, while heavy C muscle cows reached 234c/kg. Heavy bulls reached 200c/kg. Numbers comprised 124 Cows, 51 Steers, 106 Heifers, 13 Bulls plus open auction young cattle. Vealers sold to the trade from 230c to 254c, as plainer D2 types sold from 130c to 140c/kg. Feeders and restockers paid primarily from 150c to 252c, as yearlings sold to the trade from 200c to 244c/kg. D2 types sold from 170c to 173c, as feeders and restockers paid from 160c to 250c/kg. The few grown steers made from 242c to 270c, as feeders paid 240c/kg. Medium weight grown heifers sold from 200c to 264c, as plainer types sold from 140c to 200c/kg. Heavier weights sold from 210c to 260c and feeders paid from 170c to 192c/kg. Manufacturing steers sold from 190c to 210c/kg. Heavy C muscle 3 and 4 score cows made from 174c to 234c, as D muscle 3 and 4 scores received from 170c to 220c/kg. The C & D muscle 2 scores sold from 140c to 182c/kg. Medium C3 cows sold from 190c to 210c/kg. 2 score C & D muscle cows made from 120c to 180c/kg. Plainer lots sold from 80c to 124c/kg. E1 cows received from 50c to 118c/kg. Vealer bulls reached 220c, as restockers paid from 168c to 170c/kg.
NARACOORTE CATTLE
May 14. Yarding: 597. Change: down 766.
Numbers eased as agents yarded 597 head of live weight and open auction cattle. These sold to the usual array of trade and processor buyers, with both feeders and restockers present and active. Quality was again very mixed, with good weights and conditioning hard to find. Most of the market sold to easier rates, with cows selling to good competition and that saw increased prices. Yearling steers to the trade made from 260c to 290c, with the yearling heifers to the trade selling from 200c to 285c/kg. Feeder steers eased by 10c, making from 220c to 305c, while feeder heifers sold from 195c to 286c/kg. Restockers were active as they operated on steers from 206c to 255c and heifers from 150c to 289c/kg. Grown steers and bullocks made from 255c to 306c, while grown heifers sold from 200c to 281c/kg. Manufacturing steers returned vendors from 186c to 225c/kg. Light weight cows made from 144c to 195c, as the heavier selection sold from 196c to 233c.
NARACOORTE SHEEP & LAMBS

Numbers eased slightly with less lambs, while sheep numbers remained steady as agents yarded 5779 lambs and 1398 sheep to total 7177 head overall. These sold to the larger field of trade and processor buyers of last week, along with a number of restocker orders. Quality was extremely mixed with something for all orders on offer. The lamb market peaked at $295.50/head for extra heavy lambs, as another primarily dearer sale was witnessed by a large gallery of buyers, agents, vendors and onlookers. Light weight lambs to the trade sold from $86 to $139, as light weight trade 2 and 3 score types made from $141 to $156/head. Restockers purchased a range of weights and conditioning as they operated from $44 to $136/head. Trade weight 3 score lambs made from $149 to $178, as heavy lambs sold from $182 to $210/head. The extra heavy selection received from $206 to a market high of $295.50/head for a pen of crossbred lambs estimated to weight 38kg. Hoggets sold from $75 to $93 for lighter types, with the heavier pens making from $120 to $155/head. Light ewes sold from $75 to $116, with medium weights making from $111 to $147, as the heavy ewes returned vendors from $142 to a high of $211/head. Wethers received from $124 to $142, as rams sold from $85 to $144/head.
