Darcy Russell kicked six goals as the Roos powered to a 17.17 (119) to 6.8 (44) win over Terang Mortlake at Melville Oval on Saturday.

The scoring rush, which included an eight-goal to one third term, was in contrast the previous four scores of 52, 61, 78 and 67.

"It shows if we use the footy well, we give opportunities to our forwards," Roos coach Matt Dunn said.

"We had to work at it after poor kicking in the first half, we weren't making our opportunities count and they were gettable shots, it was just about execution."

Full-forward Russell, who had kicked five goals in his previous four games, more than doubled his season's goal-kicking tally in one outing.

"We certainly have a mix of goal-kickers this year and today was his turn," Dunn said.

"He marks the footy really well and could have easily finished with eight or nine.

"I think he had three marks in the first five minutes of the game."

Dunn said midfielder Dylan Starkie and ruckman Levi Dare led the Roos' second half surge.

Terang Mortlake coach Michael Sargeant was proud of the Bloods' efforts under duress.

They lost Mitch Carlin early to a corkie and Tyson Densley battled through a knee complaint.

"We are really down on numbers through the midfield and once they get tired it's hard for them to battle away," he said.

Sargeant said the Kangaroos ran hard and hurt his side's chances.

"If it wasn't four our backmen, they would've got on top in the first half," he said.
