The first-year mentor has lifted the Roosters to a 4-1 win-loss record entering the Hampden league bye but knows they are a work in progress.

Battistello pinpointed areas of improvement after the Roosters carved out a 14.10 (94) to 6.8 (44) victory against Cobden at Friendly Societies' Park on Saturday.

Noah Kol kicked three goals playing in the midfield with Battistello eager to see his teammates join him on the scoreboard.

"We want to try and spread the load in that regard," he said.

"It was a bit of a focus today and for Noah to hit the scoreboard was terrific but we certainly need a few more middies to hit the scoreboard."

South Warrnambool did plenty right against bottom-placed Cobden.

It surged to a 40-point quarter-time lead after keeping the Bombers scoreless and matched them in the contest where they do their best work. Battistello though believes the Roosters can elevate themselves.

"To our club's credit, we sit in a good position," he said.

"We haven't set the world alight in terms of performances on the field but we're still adjusting and trying to implement a game plan which has been tweaked from previous years.

"We turn to the bye a little unsure of our identity but it was a step forward."

Cobden coach Adam Courtney was pleased with the Bombers' dedication after the first break.

They were only outscored by two goals in the last three quarters.

Tomas Lindquist was a shining light, kicking four of their six goals.

"He's an exceptional young kid and plays a fantastic brand of football," Courtney said.

"He marks the ball at the highest point. He's a talented footballer but he's also very competitive on the ground.

"He's only 18 so he's got a lot of improvement."

Cobden added another victim to its long injury list with Billy McGlade going to hospital with a suspected fractured cheekbone.
