But the former goal defence is embracing the challenge as the Seagulls strive to enter the Hampden league bye ahead on the win-loss ledger.
She will line up in attack for the fourth straight game on Saturday when the Seagulls host Camperdown in the final round before the interleague break.
Watson, 20, won the league best and fairest as a teenager in 2016, playing as a dynamic goal defence.
But the Seagulls' off-season departures, including attacking quartet Sarah McCorkell, Narelle Marsden, Carley Thomas and Emily Forrest, forced a re-think at the selection table.
MORE NETBALL:
Port Fairy coach Rhiannon Cuomo thought the athletic Watson was the ideal candidate to fill their voids.
"I am still young so she thinks I can change my game style," Watson said.
"It's been very different. There's a lot more pressure in goals than defence - when you miss you feel a bit more pressure. I am adapting and I played it a little bit as a junior.
"I am learning the position again and taking on advice anyone gives me."
Watson said Cuomo spoke to her about the switch in the pre-season.
The Deakin University teaching student, who is based in the seaside town, said she was told to use her strengths.
"It's about being attacking, not just scoring goals but creating movement and opening up the goal circle," she said.
"I am definitely enjoying it and I am trying to put up shots where I can.
"When I get more understanding of where I am meant to be on court and timing, I will enjoy it a bit more."
Port Fairy is wary of Camperdown - a perrennial finalist which finds itself struggling at 1-3.
"I am expecting them to be a very new team," Watson said.
"Amanda (Clark), who is Brooke (Richardson's) sister, has come from Lake Bolac I believe and a young girl Jess Cameron from Woordnoo.
"She was at (Hampden) interleague training on Sunday and I got an insight into her as a player.
"She can play defence and goals and looks to have a bit of experience.
"I think they will be like us and try different combos. I reckon it'll be a tough game but I have faith in our team to get over the line."
