The North Warrnambool Eagles export, who moved north to join the Gold Coast Suns as a mature-aged recruit during the off-season, has settled into life as an elite footballer with the help of some familiar faces.

Corbett, who has played two games for the Suns so far this season, has his girlfriend Mikayla Murphy and close mates Isaac Miller and Jack Mentha by his side to make life away from football more relaxing.

"There are four of us in the house and I love my footy but it's good to have the work-lifer balance as I like to come home and just switch off," the 23-year-old said.

"Whether that's me hanging with them, going for a surf or having a hit of golf. Having them up here makes it feel just like home."

The emerging Suns' marking forward, who kicked two goals in his debut against Brisbane in round six, said the Gold Coast's warm weather had also been key to him finding his feet.

"It was a big change getting used to humidity up here but it has also even helped me with my touch as it allowed me to work on marking, which is an asset of my game I value, particularly during the pre-season," Corbett told The Standard.

"It also allowed me to build up a good tank and continually improve my work rate, which will hold me in good stead for the longest season I would've played in. It's a massive upside."

The biggest adjustment the former south-west resident has had to make on-field is keeping up with the fast pace that comes with playing at the top level.

"It's hard to explain until you're actually in the situation and I've had to train myself for that and understand where to run and to give the ball," he said.

"After training for the last few months I feel comfortable with my decision making and that will allow me to consistently improve."

Corbett, who is locked in to stay at the Suns until at least the end of the 2022 season, said support from home in the south-west had boomed since he moved to Queensland and it had played a role in him feeling more comfortable in an elite environment.
