Zed Em with Pateman in the saddle defeated Spying On You and Undergroundfigther to win back-to-back Great Eastern Steeplechase's at Oakbank on Saturday.
Pateman gave credit to trainer Patrick Payne for the victory.
"I'm just so lucky to have the opportunity to ride for Patrick," Pateman said.
"Patrick is just so professional with his training. He took Zed Em to Oakbank for a jumps trial a few weeks ago before running in the Von Doussa.
"Zed Em seems to love the jumps at Oakbank. Patrick puts in the time and effort in to ensure his horses are well prepared for the jumps races. Zed Em is the one to beat in this year's Annual.
"I thought he was unlucky not to have won last year's Annual. He seems to be a lot more relaxed at his jumps this year. I had no hesitation six weeks ago putting my hand up to ride Zed Em in this year's Grand Annual and I wouldn't swap the ride."
Symon Wilde's jumper Doc Holliday ran fourth in the Great Eastern.
