Chirnside Park's Michael Van Bremen secured pole position with Timboon's Luke Walker alongside him. Warrnambool's Corey McCullagh was on the second row beside Tony Moule.
Starting from seventh position Veal had to work his way past the third row pair of Mark Carlin and Brett Milburn, who would both fail to run out of the race.
At races end Veal would have made up six spots to secure the victory and lead the three-race series heading into Mount Gambier on Saturday night.
McCullagh and Walker would finish close behind in second and third. Van Bremen would end up fourth with John Vogels right behind him.
Fellow Warrnambool driver Grant Stansfield, who started the A-main on 10th position, ended the night just outside of the top-five.
