The Demons conceded the first four goals of the match, which set the scene for heroics.
It was first-gamer Lachlan Rosolin who provided them with two goals in the second quarter.
"He gave us a spark and the boys lifted," said playing-coach Marcus Hickey.
The Demons would eventually prevail by 10 points and the young forward pocket would add a number of "pressure acts" throughout the match.
The Timboon Demons mentor said his back line held its nerve in the last quarter to run out 8.11 (59) to 9.15 (69) winners.
Hickey said the under 17.5s player earned his promotion after playing well in a seniors practice match before the season.
The Timboon Demons have an Easter break before facing Old Collegians in round four.
Hickey said the break had come at "a perfect time" after three "pretty tough matches".
He said the Demons would work on their decision-making at training during the next fortnight.
He said his men made poor decisions in the first quarter against Russells Creek.
