The 35-year-old is now tied for 36th after the opening two rounds at Augusta National leaving him seven shots behind the five joint leaders - including fellow Australians 2013 winner Adam Scott and Jason Day.
Italy's Francesco Molinari, American Brooks Koepka and South African Louis Oosthuizen are the other joint leaders on seven-under par.
Leishman, who is joined in 36th by World Cup teammate Cameron Smith and pre-tournament favourite Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, shot two birdies through his round on the fourth and 12th holes.
But the Warrnambool exports gains were negated with his two bogeys on the second and 18th holes.
The Australian and McIlroy will tee off at 11.05am (1.05am AEST Sunday).
