There were 223 cattle in total at the Hamilton Fat cattle market; with numbers slightly increasing from last week's sale. As a whole the market trended slightly cheaper which followed similar market trends from the area during the week. Bull prices were firm with no heavy weights yarded. The best bulls sold up to $2.30 per kg. Averaging $2.10 and easing by 5 cents on last week's sale. A high percentage of the yarding were light trade cattle of which buyers were particular on quality. Trade heifers sold for an average $2.31 per kg and topping at $2.40 to be slightly cheaper on last week's market.

We had a much larger yarding, close on 4000 cattle, for the April Store Sale with demand high for 380+kg Steers and Heifers alike. Angus Steers topped at 322c/kg which is a 10c rise on last month's store sale. Weaner Steers reached a top of 318c/kg, while Open Auction Steers reached a high of $800ph. Grown Heifers made a top of 300c/kg which is a 20c rise on last month, while Weaner Heifers sold to 288c/kg putting them 10c up on the March store sale. Open Auction Heifers made up to $570ph which was firm on last sale. Cows & Calves topped at $1260ph, with Joined Cows topping at $1600ph. Cross-bred Steers made up to 238c/kg. There was great buyer support from major feedlots, and also South Australia and local buyers, leading to keen competition, and resulting in a very strong market being 10c dearer on Steers and 20c dearer on Heifers, which was a great outcome for vendors.

There was a large increase in lamb numbers to 15,630 head and there was also a lift in sheep supply to 11,292 at Hamilton. The increase was due to no sale until the 1st of May, with the upcoming Easter and Anzac holiday period. There was close to a near full field of buyers present, with most operating to fill orders. Quality was very mixed, but the yarding did provide heavy finished lambs some good drafts of trade weights and more pens of light lambs.
