Detective Senior Constable Stuart Sims, of the Colac police crime investigation unit, said the man was arrested at 6pm on Wednesday in Geelong.
The accused was interviewed, charged with burglary, theft and causing damage and released on bail to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court on August 26.
"It was very pleasing that the majority of the stolen property was recovered," Detective Senior Constable Sims said.
"The Birregurra store was broken into about 3am Sunday morning, with cash and cigarettes stolen.
"The damage bill and value of the stolen goods was a total of $1740," he said.
