It's fair to say the Johnstons are an athletic bunch.
Amy, 15, will represent Warrnambool Springers Gymnastics this weekend at a state trial event held in Mornington.
The year 10 Emmanuel College student picked up the sport at just five years old and competes on the floor, beams, bar and vault in level nine women's artistic gymnastics division one.
And while Amy, who trains 21 hours a week and is studying Biology 1/2 this year, said it could be difficult balancing school work with her social life and sporting commitments, she wouldn't change a thing.
"The toughest thing is putting in all the hours and always having to choose training over catching up with friends or going to parties," she said.
"But it's really fun because my family is super supportive."
Amy's younger brother Will also picked up the gymnastics bug.
Will, 10, is a level five men's artistic gymnast and is busy preparing himself to compete at the Victorian Gymnastics Championships, to be held in Geelong from April 12 to 14, in the floor, high-bar, parallel bars, vault, rings, and pommel events.
The year five St Joseph's student trains six hours a week with PIT Gymnastics, based in Mill Park, and eight hours with Springers, while also spending time honing his craft with Gymnastics Victoria at the Prahran-based high performance centre.
In 2018 Will finished first in the Tasmanian state championships, held in Hobart, while also finishing second in the Victorian championships, held in Donvale.
There's a bit of competition between me and Will, but I don't mind it, because I win every time.
- Amy Johnston
But with five years between them, Amy said she didn't mind a healthy dose of sibling rivalry.
"There's a bit of competition between me and Will - like who can do the most number of backflips in a row and do handstand for the longest time," she said.
"But I don't mind it, because I win every time."
And for Alex, 14, passion lies in the pool.
The year nine Emmanuel College student trains with the Warrnambool Swimming Club, under Jayson Lamb, and will soon compete in backstroke and freestyle at the Australian Age Swimming Championships, held in Adelaide from April 15 to 22.
