Colin Watts, 47, of Aitape Court, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool County Court to criminal damage, aggravated robbery and being drunk in a public place.
Judge Mandy Fox said Watts asked his daughter to drive him from Mt Gambier to Victoria on the day of the offending.
She said he told his daughter he had shot someone, there were guns under the seat of the car and that they should break into people's homes.
She said she was having trouble with lawyer David Swan's instructions that Watts' "bizarre behaviour" was a result of mixing alcohol and pain medication.
She said during a Triple-0 call, Watts' daughter told the operator it appeared her father was suffering drug psychosis.
The matter was adjourned for psychiatric assessment and Watts' bail was extended.
On September 6, Watts told his daughter he was in trouble and asked her to drive him from Mt Gambier to Victoria. She agreed.
During the journey, Watts began drinking straight whiskey from the bottle.
They stopped about five metres west of Casterton for a toilet break. Watts got out of the vehicle and his daughter drove to Coleraine police station for help.
Watts then walked to Casterton where he began shouting at a property in Shiels Terrace.
The owner of the house, who had never met the offender, came to the door and Watts told him he was going to kill him.
He walked to the front door and ripped it open, causing the lock mechanism to break and the door frame to shatter.
He entered the property and continued to yell at the victim, who struck Watts with his belt.
Watts then moved back outside and stood on the front lawn in a fighter's stance.
The victim said Watts appeared to be alcohol affected.
Watts then walked to another house, where he asked a woman if he could call his wife.
The woman agreed but Watts' partner said there was nothing she could do to help and the woman told the man to leave.
He was later arrested after attempting to hitch-hike on the Glenelg Highway.
