"With our $104 million investment in upgrading the Warrnambool line and this announcement, passenger rail will be quicker, safer and more reliable in the south-West. This is great news," he said.
The federal minister for education the investment in the Geelong Fast Rail project, announced by the Prime Minister Scott Morrison, today will see quicker travel times between Melbourne and Warrnambool.
"The people of the south-west have been crying out for genuine fast rail, and this announcement by the Coalition Government will slash travel times on the Warrnambool Line," Mr Tehan said.
"This investment into fast rail to Geelong will mean a trip between Melbourne and Warrnambool will take 30 minutes less, benefitting passengers of Colac, Camperdown, Terang and Warrnambool.
"Families across the south-west will be able to spend more time with each other rather than stuck on a train that is delivering mid-20th century travel times."
Mr Tehan said people right across the district would directly benefit from this investment.
"The funding announced today by the Prime Minister is part of a decentralisation plan that will lessen the strain on already stressed urban infrastructure and make it easier for people and families to live in the regions," he said.
"Today is a great day for the south-west of Victoria," he said.
