Disabled Surfers Association president Aidan Nicholson said the 100 per cent volunteer-run organisation can provide anyone with a disability an enjoyable and safe surfing experience.

"We have a lot of specialised equipment and trained volunteers to make sure that people with all range of disabilities are safe on a surfboard," Mr Nicholson said.

"From mild intellectual disabilities right up to people who are paraplegic. We can accommodate anybody with any disability."

The event, including a free barbeque, will be held at Warrnambool Surf Life-Saving Club at 76 Pertobe Road on Saturday, March 23 with surfing from 9.30am to 12pm.

Mr Nicholson said no experience was required for prospective surfers to come down and give it a try in a completely safe environment.

"The surfing experiences normally take about 20 minutes. There will be up to 15 to 20 volunteers working purely with one person. Our ratios are very high to make it very safe," he said.

"In the past we've had a record of 37 participants, so hopefully we can break that record this year."

The record cannot be broken without the support of local volunteers.

"We probably need about 70 volunteers to safely run the day," Mr Nicholson said. "We need people who are both in the water and out of the water. Anyone can help volunteer. They don't need any experience working with people who have disabilities."
