And he would know.
The Panthers lost to the Creekers by three wickets in round three, while the memory of West Warrnambool's 2016-17 grand final loss to Russells Creek remains fresh.
McLean said while Josh Campbell, who played in Russells Creek's division one flag last year, was the key wicket, the division two side's bowling line-up was its biggest asset, boasting the likes of Glenn Moore, Adam Doak, Vincent Smith, Liam Boyle and Bailey Brooks.
"They've got a couple of bowlers who would probably open or at least be first change in division one for any other club," he said.
But the West Warrnambool skipper said his side was more than capable of combating Russells Creek's attack, with experienced heads Dean Hurford, Luke Gannon and Ben Parkinson dotted through its batting order.
McLean also highlighted the impressive form of Michael Edmonds, a "resilient character" who has carved out an average of 69.4 and fell just three runs short of completing his third ton of the season in round 12 against Brierly-Christ Church.
Jed Turland and Anthony Hawken would also bring an X-factor to the grand final, according to McLean.
"They're both barometers for our team," he said. "They've played in big finals and you need those characters in the game."
