Warrnambool market followed the trend this week, yarding less numbers due to the significant price correction last week. Agents penned just over 600 good quality cattle, with all weights and grades represented. All domestic and export buyers were present and were joined by the regular feeder buyers. The market opened strong and continued until the completion of the sale, with the cow run seeing prices lift up to 55c/kg in places. There was a good offering of trade cattle suiting the domestic processors, creating a lift of 36c, with steers averaging 284c, as a single steer weighing 470kg made 303c/kg. The heifer portion also saw a price lift, increasing 16c to make from 220c to 275c/kg. The feeder buyers kept a foot in the door, with good feeder types making from 250c to 260c, lifting 14c in places, while the plainer portion sold from 120c to 190c/kg. The export processors were keen to fill their orders, with bidding intensifying in the grown steer and bullock driving the prices up 7c to 26c/kg. The good offering of heavy grown steers sold from 243c to 280c and bullocks made from 240c to 289c/kg. There was a good supply of well finished cows today, with processors going the extra mile creating a lift of 55c for the heaviest C4 beef cows, receiving from 200c to 230c/kg. The top conditioned dairy portion made up to 205c, with the very light conditioned cows receiving from 120c and 132c, increasing 18c/kg. A small offering of bulls sold to the usual buying group in a slightly dearer market lifting up to 2c/kg. Bulls with better shape sold from 205c to 220c and the better dairy portion made from 200c to 210c/kg. Restockers entered the market of some nice young bulls paying up to 254c/kg.
