The club enjoyed a boost in popularity after the Victorian state championships in November.
And McKenna, 40, said he hoped this weekend's Warrnambool Classic - headlined by Bodi Turner - would have the same effect.
This event will have something everyone - right through from the novice class to the men's and women's superclass.
McKenna said it would be a golden opportunity for local riders like Ethan Dowd, 16, to line up at the gate against Turner, who represented Australia in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
"Having Bodi there will just be fantastic," McKenna said.
"It will be an unreal experience for the kids.
"But I'm probably even more excited myself."
The Warrnambool BMX Club has also signed up some homegrown star-power.
Former Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic runner-up Darren Mollenoyux and partner Deanne introduced their two children to the sport a few weeks ago and haven't looked back.
Mollenoyux used to enjoy BMX racing before he traded two wheels in for four.
But the 37-year-old said sitting back while Maddi, 5, and Jacob, 8, tear it up on the Jetty Flat Reserve BMX track was another thrill in itself.
"I love watching them ride around," Mollenoyux said.
"I get more enjoyment out of that than competing myself."
Mollenoyux said his two youngsters couldn't wait to "jump in the deep end" after just a handful of training sessions.
The Warrnambool Classic, featuring three pro classes with $800 prize-money up for grabs, will serve as round one of the BMX Victoria state series.
The event also features age classes including 20-inch, sprockets, cruiser, retro and mini wheelers, with the gate for racing dropping at 10.30am on Sunday.
The club will be running a gate practice from 3-5pm on Saturday, with all riders to wear safety gear and hold a current BMX Australia licence.
