Motorists had a win this week with Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack and Wannon MP Dan Tehan announcing $80 million for the Princes Highway west of Colac and two other key roads. At last.
They challenged the state government to match it. The state government not surprisingly rejected the call. Why would it help the Coalition on the eve of federal election?
Yet again much-needed transport upgrades will be compromised by politics. The Princes Highway west of Colac is a goat's track, a threat to life and limb, a retardant for business and freight and a national embarrassment. We deserve better.
We will continue to campaign for upgrades on your behalf but we all need to write to our state and federal politicians and premier Daniel Andrews and send a clear message. A tidal wave of community concern is needed to wash away the stench of politics in this space.
It's been another big week of news. One person we should be proud of is Trevor Gleeson. Gleeson, who grew up in west Warrnambool, claimed a slice of basketball history last Sunday when he coached the Perth Wildcats to a famous National Basketball League championship. Under enormous pressure to keep his job, on Friday he was rewarded with a three-year contract extension. Check out an insightful feature on him below.
Another feel-good piece this week was our story about a gesture that warmed the hearts of our Muslim community in the wake of the Christchurch massacre.

We will consider running more sessions depending on numbers. I look forward to meeting you!
Leanne Walsh and Stacey Savage are set for a fun time, they are the winners of our double passes, plus a glass of bubbly, for the Sydney Hotshots Magic Mike XXL show at Warrnambool's Mid City on March 29. We will be in touch with how to collect your tickets.
